Annual Session of the Executive Board of the World Food Programme held in Rome

The Annual Session of the Executive Board (EB) of the World Food Programme (WFP) was held at the Organization's Headquarters from 24 to 28 June 2024.

In her opening remarks, Executive Director Cindy McCain noted that June 24 coincides with "Women in Diplomacy" Day and thanked all female diplomats for their efforts and took a commemorative photo with them.

Providing information about the restructuring of the Organization, C. McCain said that the number of leadership positions has been reduced and special seminars have been organized for employees to manage stress and increase resilience.

Noting the need to expand climate financing, the Executive Director stated that WFP is focusing on long-term partnerships and cooperation with private sector donors in order to obtain more resources for its activities.

After the Executive Director's speech, statements on behalf of the lists and national statements were heard.

The speakers praised the work done by WFP, highlighted the current challenges and problems, emphasized the lack of adequate financial resources, and listed vulnerable countries (Gaza, Sahel, Ukraine, Sudan, Haiti).

In addition, during the annual session, a recommendation was adopted to streamline the framework of the Board's sessions, so that the first regular session will focus on strategy and policy, the annual meeting on oversight and accountability, and the second regular session on other policy matters and programming and planning of activities for future years.
