Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov met with Federica Mogherini, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy

Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov met with Federica Mogherini, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice-President of the European Commission on the sidelines of the 71st Session of the UN General Assembly.

At the meeting the sides exchanged views on the current status and prospects of development of the relations between Azerbaijan and the EU, expressed mutual interest for the development of cooperation.

Both sides reaffirmed their readiness to start negotiations in order to raise the partnership to the qualitatively new level, adding that there is great potential to develop relations in the fields of energy, transport and agriculture.

Informing about the current status of the negotiations on the settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict, Minister Elmar Mammadyarov stressed that continuation the occupation of Azerbaijan's territories by Armenia and its destructive and provocative policy undermines the resolution of conflict and ensuring of peace and stability in the region. He added that Azerbaijan supports substantive negotiation for the settlement of the conflict.

Elmar Mammadyarov thanked for EU's supoort for the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Federica Mogherini noted that EU supports the peaceful settlement of Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict.
