The First Regular Session of the World Food Programme Executive Board for 2025 held in Rome
From 18 to 21 February 2025, the First Regular Session for 2025 of the Executive Board (EB) of the World Food Programme (WFP) took place at the Organization’s Headquarters in Rome. Azerbaijan was represented at the session by its Embassy in Italy.
WFP Executive Director Ms. Cindy McCain delivered the opening address, noting that another WFP staff member had been killed in Yemen in February, and the session observed a one-minute silence in memory of all UN personnel who lost their lives.
Ms. McCain provided a comprehensive overview of the activities and achievements of WFP during the preceding period.
Subsequently, member countries of the WFP Executive Board, along with several observers, delivered national statements, commending the work of the Programme. They drew attention to the current humanitarian and food security situations in countries such as Lebanon, Gaza, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ghana, Yemen, and Ukraine, emphasizing the importance of increasing contributions to ensure the continuation of WFP operations.
