Azerbaijan’s Debut at the Venice Architecture Biennale

Showcasing its architectural achievements of recent years, Azerbaijan is participating for the first time in the International Architecture Biennale in Venice.

At the 19th Venice Architecture Biennale, held from 10 May to 23 November, Azerbaijan is represented with the pavilion titled “Equilibrium. Patterns of Azerbaijan”, organized by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan, with the support of the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Italy.

Within the exhibition, Azerbaijan presents three architectural projects under the theme “Regenerate. Innovate. Preserve”: Baku White City, Victory Park, and the Zangilan Mosque.

This edition of the Architecture Biennale is dedicated to the theme “Intelligens. Natural. Artificial. Collective”, aiming to raise awareness of climate change while inviting reflection on how architecture adapts to a changing world through natural, artificial, and collective intelligence.

The Baku White City project, one of the most advanced and contemporary urban development initiatives, embodies the transition from an industrial past to a sustainable and regenerated green future through modern technologies and collective efforts.

Victory Park, a monumental symbol of the 8 November Victory, commemorates the memory of the sons of the Motherland who sacrificed their lives for the liberation of Azerbaijani lands and reflects the determination of a united nation striving for national prosperity.

Built in the Karabakh architectural style, the Zangilan Mosque symbolizes the synthesis of nature and architecture, as well as the harmony between the present and the future.

The pavilion also presents information about Ajami Nakhchivani, the world-renowned architect of the 12th century, founder of the Nakhchivan school of architecture, who devoted his life and intellect to his people and nation.

Throughout the six months of the exhibition, various conferences, seminars, and meetings related to architecture will also be held.
