Azerbaijan was represented at the meeting of the International Plant Protection Convention
The 20th session of the Commission on Phytosanitary Measures of the International Plant Protection Convention was held at the headquarters of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Rome, Italy, from March 9 to 13, 2026.
The session, organized in a hybrid format, discussed issues of protecting global plant health, promoting safe international trade, and strengthening phytosanitary systems.
Our country was represented at the event by Elmar Allahverdiyev, Head of the Plant Health and Biosafety Department of the Food Safety Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Chief State Phytosanitary Inspector of the Republic.
The session focused on the adoption and updating of international phytosanitary standards, the implementation of the IPPC strategic framework covering 2020-2030, expanding the use of the ePhyto system, and digitalization in the phytosanitary field.
In addition, views were exchanged on preventing the spread of pests and managing risks, improving pest risk analysis and control procedures, phytosanitary risks related to e-commerce and logistics, as well as the impact of climate change on plant health and the development of early warning systems.
