Azerbaijan’s innovative projects promoted at 35th session of the FAO Regional Conference for Europe

The 35th session of the Regional Conference of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) for Europe and Central Asia was held in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan, from 11 to 15 May 2026. The aim of the conference was to discuss current challenges in the field of food security, sustainable agriculture, efficient use of natural resources and the development of rural areas.

The event was attended by FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu, ministers, deputy ministers, ambassadors from various countries, as well as heads of international and regional organizations. Azerbaijan was represented at the international event by Deputy Minister of Agriculture Elchin Zeynalov.

In his speech at the session, Deputy Minister Elchin Zeynalov spoke about the reforms carried out in the agrarian sector in our country, provided information about the main directions of the agrarian development strategy in Azerbaijan, and innovative projects implemented. He emphasized that the implementation of climate-friendly agriculture, the establishment of efficient supply chains and the promotion of innovation play an important role in the development of sustainable and inclusive agriculture. Elchin Zeynalov added that consistent and systematic measures are being taken in Azerbaijan to transform agriculture into modern and digital agriculture, develop rural areas, and expand state support measures in the agricultural sector.

Within the framework of the event, panel discussions were held with the participation of young people on the topics of sustainable development of agrifood systems, investment dialogue, strengthening the sustainability of agricultural systems, development of partnerships in the bioeconomy and agricultural sector, as well as increasing the role of women in agriculture. In addition, the participants of the event discussed the FAO's regional priorities in the context of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, the "Four Betters" initiative, which envisages improving production, nutrition, the environment and quality of life.

The participants of the event got acquainted with the exhibition reflecting the achievements of Tajikistan in the agricultural sector. The exhibition demonstrated innovative and digital solutions applied by this country in the agricultural sector, various plants and plant species, fruits and vegetables, livestock and beekeeping products.
