Azerbaijani film screening held in Rome

The screening of the film “Buta” prepared by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan was held within the framework of an event dedicated to Azerbaijani cinema in the capital of Italy, Rome.

The event was held at the “Cinema Caravaggio” cinema in Rome, jointly organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Italy, the Azerbaijani Cultural Center and the “La Lampadina – Periodiche Illuminazioni” Association.

The film “Buta” being screened not only bears the name of a widespread ornamental motif in Azerbaijani carpet weaving, but also reflects the name of the main character of the film. The film tells about the events taking place against the background of the daily life of people in a small Azerbaijani village located among the Caucasus Mountains, their connection with nature and traditions.

The film, directed by Ilgar Najaf in 2011, was an official candidate for the “Best Foreign Language Film” nomination by the National Committee for the “Oscar”, and was also awarded the “Best Feature Film for Children” award at the presentation ceremony of the “Asia Pacific Screen Awards”, known as the “Asian Oscar”.

Before the screening of the film, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Republic of Italy Rashad Aslanov made a speech, stating that the screening of national films outside the country is of great importance from the point of view of promoting Azerbaijani culture, that state support is provided to expand the opportunities for the proper promotion and representation of Azerbaijani cinema and culture in the world in the promotion of national and spiritual values, that culture and cinema play an important role in the development of cultural relations between Azerbaijan and Italy, and that such events contribute to a closer introduction of Azerbaijani culture to the Italian public.

The moderator of the event, Gulnar Taghizada, Deputy Director of the Azerbaijan Cultural Center, noted in her speech that the cinema industry in the country is continuously developing, and Azerbaijani films are being met with increasing interest and sympathy in the international arena.

Representatives of the “La Lampadina – Periodiche Illuminazioni” Association, Isabella Confortini Hall and Pucci Biffi Rastrelli, expressed confidence that the film will be met with interest by the Italian audience and expressed their readiness to implement joint cultural projects in the future.

The film was met with great interest by the audience, consisting of representatives of the Azerbaijani community in Italy and Italy's academic and cultural circles.
