Climate Finance Event held at the World Food Programme Headquarters
Azerbaijan was represented at the event by Elshad Iskandarov, Special Envoy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The two-day seminar focused on ensuring equitable access to climate finance for countries and populations in fragile and vulnerable situations.
Participants included representatives from the WFP, G7 Secretariat, COP29 Presidency, Green Climate Fund, African Development Bank, UNFCCC Secretariat, World Bank, as well as delegations from Mauritania, Syria, Norway, Republic of Korea, Burkina Faso, Iraq, Somalia, South Sudan, Timor-Leste, Yemen, Chad, Switzerland, and Papua New Guinea. Discussions highlighted both progress and persistent inequalities, and presented the current and projected landscape of climate finance flows in fragile and crisis-affected contexts.
In his remarks, Ambassador E. Iskandarov emphasized that a comprehensive approach protects vulnerable states with the tools they urgently need. He also highlighted that the “Baku Hub”, established under the initiative of the COP29 Presidency, facilitates access to climate finance and creates a bridge between climate action, peace, and resilience.
