Event dedicated to 27 September – Remembrance Day held in Rome
At the beginning of the event, the memory of those who were martyred in the struggle for the restoration of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and sovereignty was honored with a minute of silence, followed by the playing of the National Anthem.
Deputy Director of the Cultural Center Gulnar Taghizada emphasized that this day holds a significant place in the heroic history of the Azerbaijani people, noting that the cherished memory of the heroic martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Motherland will always be preserved and honored with deep respect.
The Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Italy Rashad Aslanov stated that 27 September will remain one of the most important dates in Azerbaijan’s modern history and will never be erased from the nation’s memory. The Ambassador underlined that on that day, which marked the beginning of the 44-day Patriotic War, under the leadership of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, the Azerbaijani Army and people rose up to liberate the occupied territories and restore sovereignty. This struggle also demonstrated that the Azerbaijani state has never come to terms with occupation.
The diplomat noted that the peace agreement reached in Washington on 8 August this year once again demonstrated Azerbaijan’s recognition as a state that puts forward peace initiatives and promotes peace principles, and that it also fights for peace.
In his speech, Senior Assistant to the Military Attaché, Captain Second Rank Ruslan Khaliyev stated that 27 September led to the restoration of historical justice for Azerbaijan. He emphasized that the path to Victory has a history, and its architect is National Leader Heydar Aliyev. This history also proved that the slogan of the President of Azerbaijan and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Ilham Aliyev – “Strong army, strong state!”, is not merely a slogan. R. Khaliyev stressed that this struggle was not only a military victory of the Armed Forces, but also the triumph of the political and diplomatic struggle led by the Victorious Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev.
Following the speeches, the film “Biz” (We), produced by the Baku Media Center and dedicated to the heroism of the Azerbaijani Army during the Patriotic War and to the cherished memory of the martyrs, was screened.
