Minister Jeyhun Bayramov Meets with Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Antonio Tajani
On 27 November 2025, within the framework of his official visit to the Italian Republic, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov, met with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy Antonio Tajani.
During the meeting, the parties expressed satisfaction with the high level of development of the Azerbaijan–Italy strategic partnership and reviewed the existing opportunities for further expanding bilateral relations.
The ministers particularly highlighted that the visit of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, to Italy last year, as well as the official visit of the President of Italy Sergio Mattarella to Azerbaijan in September of this year, significantly strengthened political dialogue between the two countries. At the same time, the participation of the President of the Council of Ministers of Italy Giorgia Meloni in COP29, as well as the regular meetings between the leaders, were recalled with satisfaction.
It was noted that the opening of the new building of the Italy-Azerbaijan University during President Mattarella’s visit to Azerbaijan carries great importance, and that cooperation in the field of education has become one of the key pillars of the strategic partnership.
The ministers reviewed opportunities to expand cooperation in the fields of energy, economy, trade, transport, culture, education, and defense.
Emphasizing the strategic importance of energy cooperation between the two countries, it was underlined that large-scale projects implemented in this field play an important role in ensuring the reliability of Europe’s energy supply.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov informed his counterpart about the Azerbaijan–Armenia normalization process, initiatives aimed at peace and stability in the region, the historical significance of the Washington Joint Declaration of 8 August 2025, and the agreements reached. Satisfaction was expressed regarding the active involvement of Italian companies in reconstruction and restoration works in the liberated territories.
The importance of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Italy within the framework of international organizations, including the European Union and other multilateral platforms, was emphasized.
Opportunities for cooperation between Azerbaijan and Italy within the framework of the World Urban Forum, to be held in Azerbaijan next year, were also reviewed.
The meeting additionally included an exchange of views on the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the situation in the Middle East, as well as other international and regional issues of mutual interest.
