Mugham concert held in Rome
Deputy Director of the Cultural Center Gulnar Taghizada noted that the concert was held within the framework of the “Year of the Constitution and Sovereignty” and in connection with 18 October – Independence Restoration Day, providing detailed information about Azerbaijan’s rich culture and musical heritage.
The Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Italy, Rashad Aslanov, stated that the declaration of 2025 as the “Year of the Constitution and Sovereignty” by Presidential Decree of President Ilham Aliyev is an important political step aimed at strengthening state independence. He emphasized that a new era began with the adoption of the Constitutional Act on the State Independence of Azerbaijan on 18 October 1991, describing the date as a milestone in the country’s history.
The diplomat highlighted that mugham occupies a special place in Azerbaijan’s rich and diverse culture. It was noted that the tar, kamancha, and gaval are fundamental elements of the mugham musical genre, which has been recognized by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. This mugham trio represents a unique example of Azerbaijan’s deeply rooted musical traditions.
The concert featured performances by mugham television competition winner and khananda Nisbat Sadrayeva, tar player Rustam Muslimov, and kamancha performer Parviz Farhadov. The soulful examples of Azerbaijani mugham were met with great appreciation and applause.
