Azerbaijani Ambassador participates in event organized by the president of Malta
On January 15, 2025, Ambassador Rashad Aslanov visited Malta to participate in an event organized on the occasion of the New Year for representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Malta at the initiative of the President of Malta, Mrs. Miriam Spiteri Debono.
In his New Year greetings, the President of Malta made a speech, stating that this was her first address to the diplomatic corps after her appointment, and each of the delegates appreciated her efforts to strengthen mutual understanding, build bridges, and jointly address the challenges of our time. She noted the key role of diplomacy in promoting dialogue and resolving conflicts in international relations, touched upon the conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine, and stressed their insistence on calling for an immediate ceasefire in the Middle East, the release of all hostages, and the delivery of humanitarian aid to conflict zones. She also stressed the importance of achieving a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in Ukraine based on the fundamental principles of the UN and respect for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine, and said that unity among all EU member states and enhanced cooperation with global partners would be of great importance in continuing support for Ukraine and preventing escalation.
M.S. Debono recalled that in 2024 Malta celebrated the 60th anniversary of Independence, the 50th anniversary of the Republic, the 45th anniversary of the cessation of its activities as a military base, and the 20th anniversary of its full membership in the European Union. She spoke about her country's active activity in the international arena as the OSCE Chair-in-Office and a member of the UN Security Council, and emphasized that if current and future generations want to live in a lasting peace, security, and safe environment, the international community must be vigilant and waves of extreme nationalism and imperialist ambitions must be prevented.
She then met with the ambassadors separately, congratulated them, and wished them success in their activities. Ambassador Aslanov congratulated the President of Malta on behalf of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and conveyed to her the best wishes of our Head of State. At the same time, the President expressed her gratitude for the congratulations and asked him to convey her congratulations and most sincere wishes to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the people of Azerbaijan on the occasion of the New Year 2025.
Later, a New Year event was held at the Office of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Malta and an exchange of greetings was held with Prime Minister Robert Abela. On the same day, a reception was also organized for the diplomatic corps at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Tourism.
Within the framework of the visit, Ambassador R. Aslanov also held a number of bilateral meetings.
