Press release 31 January 2025

The project “The Future We Want MUN: A Global Initiative for Young Leaders” was held in Rome

From January 30 to February 2, 2025, the project “The Future We Want Model United Nations: A Global Initiative for Young Leaders” (FWW MUN) was held.

FWW is organized by the Global Youth and Diplomacy Council with the support of the Italian Diplomatic Academy (IDA), which is affiliated with the UN Department of Global Communications. The Italian Diplomatic Academy is part of the UN Academic Impact initiative, a member of the Sustainable Development Solutions Network, and a partner of the TAP Network.

The project brought together over 100 young participants from more than 10 countries. Within the framework of the project, on January 31, 2025, a conference titled “Empowering Youth to Strengthen Multilateralism” was held, and Rashad Aslanov Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Italy was invited to participate as the main speaker.

The conference aimed to engage young people with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, emphasizing the importance of youth voices in decision-making at all levels of the 2030 Agenda and in its practical implementation.

During the event, a video message from UN Secretary-General António Guterres was shown, along with two short videos highlighting the activities of FWW MUN and the IDA.

The opening speech was delivered by Abramo Chabib, Executive Director of the Italian Diplomatic Academy, who emphasized the need for joint action in addressing the critical issues facing the international community today. He highlighted the important role of diplomacy and artificial intelligence and noted that the essence of FWW is aimed at fostering mutual understanding.

Following the opening, alongside the Azerbaijani Ambassador, speeches were given by Martin Eichtinger, Austrian Ambassador to Italy, Ronald Meyer, Executive Director at the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), and Yoshimitsu Taki, Advisor at the Embassy of Japan in Italy. They shared their personal experiences with youth and discussed initiatives undertaken in their respective countries for young people.

Ambassador Rashad Aslanov gave a detailed presentation on international law, double standards applied to some countries, COP29 hosted by Azerbaijan and its youth initiatives, and, more broadly, on youth policy in Azerbaijan.

At the end of the event, the speakers were presented with a commemorative plaque on behalf of the Academy, expressing “deep respect and sincere gratitude.”
