Speaker of Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova met with the President of Chamber of Deputies of Italy Lorenzo Fontana
Speaker of Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova met with Lorenzo Fontana, President of Chamber of Deputies of Italy during the framework of her official visit to Italian Republic.
During the meeting, an exchange of views was held regarding the relations between our countries and parliaments.
Kindly welcoming the Speaker of Milli Majlis, Lorenzo Fontana expressed his belief that this visit will contribute to the strengthening and expansion of relations between parliaments.
He stated that relations with Azerbaijan are of significance for Italy and expressed his gratefulness for the improvement of relations between parliaments. Lorenzo Fontana highlighted that they attach a great importance to Azerbaijan's relations with the European Union and that Italy is ready to provide all kinds of support for the further development of these relations.
Telling that this is her second official visit to the Italian Republic, the Speaker of Milli Majlis asserted that it indicates how much importance our country gives to the ties with the Italian Parliament. According to the Speaker Sahiba Gafarova, who stated that Italy is one of the closest partners with Azerbaijan, relations containing various sectors between the countries improve in the spirit of friendship and cooperation.
During the conversation, a special role of political contacts, including high-level visits and meetings, in the progress of relations was noted, and it was emphasized that especially mutual visits at the presidential level contains a huge significance for the rise of relations to a qualitatively new period.
At the meeting, both sides highlighted the necessary role of the inter-parliamentary operations as one of the factors positively and effectively affecting bilateral and multilateral relations. It was noted that there exists a good experience in mutual visits at the level of parliamentary friendship groups and other parliamentary delegations. Along with the visits of representatives of Milli Majlis to Italy, Members of Italian Parliament have attended the numerous and crucial events held in our country. It was also stated that the joint activity of friendship groups is necessary in further deepening the ties between legislative organs, and that they serve as a bridge between the parliaments through regular contacts, dialogue, and exchange of views.
During the conversation, it was noted that relations in the areas of education, science, and culture contains a major significance, and such cooperation contribute to the strengthening of relations between the countries, and to the consolidation of contacts among the individuals. In this regard, importance of several cultural projects implemented by Azerbaijan, especially Haydar Aliyev Foundation in Italy was highlighted.
Speaker of Milli Majlis invited the President of the Chambers of Deputies of Italy, Lorenzo Fontana to Azerbaijan. The invitation was gratefully accepted.
At the meeting, an exchange of views was held around a number of issues possessing mutual interest, including the current situation in the region and in a broader geography.
