Perspectives of Azerbaijan-FAO cooperation discussed in Italy

 

During a working visit to Italy, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Agriculture, Majnun Mammadov, met with Qu Dongyu, Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

The meeting, held at FAO’s headquarters in Rome, highlighted the importance of projects implemented within the framework of partnership with the organization and discussed prospects for future cooperation.

Majnun Mammadov touched upon the significance of hosting COP29 in Azerbaijan and spoke about measures being implemented to minimize the impact of climate change on the agricultural sector. He emphasized that agricultural development is a national priority in Azerbaijan, highlighting state support for agriculture and the ongoing reforms in this area.

Qu Dongyu expressed that Azerbaijan is one of FAO’s key partners and welcomed the establishment of high-level relations with the country. The FAO Director-General noted the great potential for digital development in rural areas of Azerbaijan and shared his views on expanding cooperation.

The parties exchanged views on projects carried out and results achieved under the FAO-Azerbaijan Partnership Program. They noted Azerbaijan’s strong representation in FAO, active participation in the work of highly selective bodies, and discussed prospects for holding several international events within multilateral partnership platforms.

The meeting concluded with a broad exchange of views on topics of mutual interest.
