Minister of Foreign Affairs Elmar Mammadyarov received the delegation headed by Linda Lanzilotta, vice-president of Italian Senate

At the meeting the sides expressed satisfaction with the development of inter-parliamentary relations and highlighted the importance of reciprocal visits. They expressed assurance that this visit would contribute to the development of these relations.

The sides exchanged views on the current status of Azerbaijan-Italy relations and their future prospects, as well as Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. They mentioned that the current development level of the relations in political, economic, energy, culture, tourism and education fields is in the interests of the people of two countries. Appreciating the high-level political and economic relations between Azerbaijan and Italy the sides emphasized the importance of continuing joint efforts for further development of cooperation. 

It was also noted that Italy is an important trading partner of Azerbaijan in the European Union. While touching upon the strategic importance of the TAP project, which is an important component of the Southern Gas Corridor the sides expressed hope that ongoing construction work of TAP project will be finalized within the time schedule. Linda Lanzilotta reiterated that TAP project has an important role in the energy security of Italy and Europe.

Minister Elmar Mammadyarov informed interlocutor that Baku is one of the candidate cities for “EXPO-2025” and noted that capital Baku and Azerbaijan is a regular host of different prominent international events during the last years.

Ms. Linda Lanzillotta highly appreciated the contribution of Azerbaijan to religious and intercultural dialogue, as well as the moderate policy pursued by Azerbaijan as a secular state.

At the meeting the sides exchanged the views on prospects of further development of inter-parliamentary relations and other issues of mutual interest.
