Minister Majnun Mammadov participates in FAO’s High-Level Special event for ministers

Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Azerbaijan Majnun Mammadov, currently on a working visit to Italy, participated in a high-level special event for ministers organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) at its headquarters in Rome. The event was titled “From Vulnerability to Resilience - Strengthening Food Security and Better Life in Small Island Developing States, Least Developed Countries and Landlocked Developing Countries”.

Opening the event, FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu noted that developing countries face significant challenges in meeting food needs and ensuring food security due to global climate change and economic instability. He emphasized that transforming agri-food systems in these countries from vulnerability to resilience requires a multifaceted approach involving tailored solutions, technological innovations, and strengthened partnerships.

The event highlighted the increasing threats to global food security, particularly in the context of climate change, resource scarcity, economic instability, and uneven development. Speakers emphasized that collective action and joint efforts are crucial for addressing interconnected and pressing challenges. Experts noted that sharing best practices and innovative solutions for ensuring food security can provide a significant boost to the development of inclusive and resilient agri-food systems in these countries.

The event continued with panel sessions on topics such as:

  • Unlocking potentials with technology and innovation for improved productivity and sustainability in agrifood systems”
  • Nutrition and development in vulnerable states 
  • “Financing and partnerships for resilient agrifood systems 

Panel discussions addressed issues such as climate change and depletion of natural resources, establishing sustainable agricultural systems to meet new challenges, digital transformation of the agricultural sector, technology transfer, and the sharing of best practices. Experts also shared insights on land conservation, biodiversity protection, efficient use of water resources, establishment of large-scale cereal farms, increasing productivity, improving wheat self-sufficiency, and developing the processing industry through the application of modern technologies.
