Commemoration event dedicated to National Leader Heydar Aliyev held in Rome
On 12 December 2025, a commemorative event dedicated to the memory of National Leader Heydar Aliyev was held in Rome, Italy. The event was jointly organized by the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Italy, the Azerbaijan Cultural Center, and the Azerbaijan Students and Alumni Platform (ASAP).
The event began with the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan, followed by a one-minute silence in memory of Heydar Aliyev.
Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Italy Rashad Aslanov delivered the opening remarks, highlighting Heydar Aliyev’s exceptional role in the formation of modern Azerbaijani statehood. The Ambassador emphasized that the oil strategy initiated by the National Leader, and successfully continued by President Ilham Aliyev, has made a significant contribution to Europe’s energy security. He also noted that the course set by Heydar Aliyev for the liberation of occupied territories was completed by President, Supreme Commander Ilham Aliyev with historic victory.
In his speech, Ambassador Aslanov spoke about Azerbaijani youth studying in Rome, emphasizing Heydar Aliyev’s special attention to youth development and the importance of state programs implemented in this direction.
Deputy Director of the Azerbaijan Cultural Center in Rome Gulnar Taghizada highlighted that Heydar Aliyev was not only an outstanding statesman but also a great personality who paid special attention to preserving Azerbaijani culture, national identity, and spiritual values. She noted that during his leadership, national culture became an integral part of the state ideology, a policy that remains relevant today.
Representatives of ASAP, including students Fidan Mamiyeva and Fariz Masimli, presented on Heydar Aliyev’s focus on youth, the state’s youth policies, and programs supporting youth initiatives.
Following the speeches, the documentary film “İz” (Sign), prepared in 2024 under the initiative of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and reflecting the life and work of the National Leader, was screened.
