Press release 28 June 2024

1st Azerbaijani students arrive in Rome for Luiss – ADA Master Course

“Academic cooperation increasingly intense”

2 years after the signing of the academic agreement between ADA University (Azerbaijan) and Luiss Guido Carli University (Italy), within the framework of the realisation of the Italy-Azerbaijan University, the first group of students of the GMAP (Global Management and Politics) double degree master's programme arrived in Rome. They will be the first graduates of the Italy-Azerbaijan University project in 2025 and the ceremony will take place at the Luiss campus.

Within this path, the ADA University and the Free International University of Social Studies, have developed, under the direction of Marco Francesco Mazzù, Professor of Practice, Marketing & Digital, Luiss University and Luiss Business School, an exclusive Summer programme, designed specifically for Azerbaijani students and some of their professors, with specialized training in areas of relevance to the sector being studied, with a full agenda of lectures, meetings and guided visits to major Italian companies. The objective: to enhance and transmit the know-how of national excellence across the border and to develop, with the contribution of an integrated pool of lecturers and experts, the “Made in Azerbaijan” concept.

The intense three-week study and field experience ended with a ceremony at the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the evening of 28 June, in the presence of Professors Silvia Dello Russo, co-director of the GMAP double degree master course, and Marco Francesco Mazzù, Director of the Summer Programme “International Management - Made in Italy”. Also the new Italian Ambassador to Azerbaijan, H.E. Luca Di Gianfrancesco attended the occasion.

The mobility of students, professors and academic advisors will continue in the coming months, with the aim of harmonizing the vision and teaching methodology and perfecting the tools and knowledge acquired.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan Rashad Aslanov, speaking in his greetings to the participants, highlighted the importance of the academic project within the framework of the strategic cooperation between Azerbaijan and Italy, which has reached a level of maximum development, as confirmed by the numerous and continuous bilateral visits. Professor Raffaele Marchetti, Luiss' Pro-Rector for Internationalisation, said: “The experience of the Italy-Azerbaijan University is marking a path of advanced bilateral cooperation that is already a reference for other nations. We hope that it can grow further and help lay the foundations for fruitful long-term cooperation. Having a ruling class formed in both countries is, in fact, the best way to design a common future”.

Italian Ambassador Luca Di Gianfrancesco and Aynura Huseynova from ADA University also brought their greetings and good wishes.

Academic cooperation between Azerbaijan and Italy is indeed experiencing a moment of great dynamism, almost 2 years after the exchange of the agreements on the Italy-Azerbaijan University, which took place on September 1, 2022, in the presence of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, together with the Rector of ADA University, Hafiz Pashayev, and the heads of the 5 major Italian universities involved: Luiss Guido Carli University, Sapienza University of Rome, Turin Polytechnic, Alma Mater Studiorum - University of Bologna, and Milan Polytechnic.
